The broad standard, varied genetic background based on years of restricted inbreeding and wide outcrossing, and great variety of size and type, are the major characteristics that make this strain of terrier known as a Jack Russell such a unique, versatile working terrier. May 2nd, 2012 Lilo Pet I am often asked if there is anything that can be done to prevent arthritis in dogs and cats. While many of us want to avoid using the word when discussing a variety of diseases, a better term to use may minimize the likelihood of or delay the onset of certain diseases that are being discussed. While I believe we can do much to prevent problems such as arthritis, I am hesitant to use the word prevent (although I often use it with my client or when I was interviewed on radio or television) because it means a sure thing. In contrast to the cartoon character, cowardly Great Dane is not a dog like Scooby Doo. In medieval times they used to hunt wild boar, so often referred to as the German Boarhound. The Carthusian order of monks at the monastery, in their spare time between praying, liqueur-making, and weapon-forging, bred Chartreux cats with the same skill and dedication with which they created their world-famous yellow and green Chartreuse liqueurs.
